J. W. Beynon

MR. JOHN WYNDHAM BEYNON, of Bryn Ivor Hall, Castleton, the Chairman of the Newport Harbour Board, is the son of the late Mr. Thomas Beynon, who was one of the Shipowners' Representatives on the Board for many years, an ex-Mayor of Newport, and at one time High Sheriff and Deputy-Lieutenant for the County of Monmouth. Mr. Beynon is the senior partner in the firm of T. Beynon and Co., Ltd., of Cardiff, Newport and London, extensive coal shippers and large shipowners. He is also a Director of the Newport-Abercarn Black Vein Steam Coal Co., Ltd., and was elected to a seat on the Harbour Board in 1893 as a representative of the coalowners, and has sat continuously ever since.
